ONE BIG SONG IN TWO-HOURS

Wimoweh

ONE NIGHT ONLY

THURSDAY 16th MAY,

7.30 -9.30pm

RINGWOOD UNITING CHURCH HALL

In the jungle, the mighty jungle,

the lion sleeps tonight....

Come and sing this all-time, feel-good favourite, singing "wimoweh" to our heart's content. With predictable, easy-to-learn harmonies this is the perfect way in for less-than-confident harmony singers. 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight', was written way back in 1939 by Solomon Linda, who worked as a cleaner and record packer for the Gallo Record Company in Johannesburg. Originally composed in Zulu, it has enjoyed several reincarnations. The Weavers, with Pete Seeger, recorded it in 1951 as 'Wimoweh', and later in 1961 a doo-wop group called The Tokens took it to number one in the USA. Later in 1982, pop group Tight Fit in the UK gave it their own spin. Together we will craft our own rendition, and you're welcome to record our final result to take home at the end of the evening.  Sing 120: Wimoweh will be fun and relaxed, and you are very welcome.

Time

WEDNESDAY SERIES

May 22, 29, June 5, 12 CONCERT - June 14th

7.15 -8.45pm

WYREENA ARTS COMMUNITY, CROYDON

Time. Elusive, relentless, eternal, and a favoured subject of poets and composers: 'If I could put time in a bottle'.... 'Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away'.... ''Sunrise, sunset, swiftly flow the years'.... 'When I was 17, it was a very good year'.... 'Five hundred twenty-five thousand six-hundred minutes'.

The TIME series is for energetic singers with harmony-singing experience. Together, we'll sing our way around a range of genres and eras, in four part harmony, using a mix of note-reading and by-ear learning. You're expected to be available and willing to participate in a relaxed public performance in Ringwood on Friday 14 June. If you're unavailable for the concert, or uncomfortable about performing, please don't book into this series. All queries to be sent to lucy@justsingsomething.com and not the venue, as they have no organisational involvement.
